Breakthrough Journal Redesign

Breakthrough Journal Redesign

Creative Director

When Executive Editor Kathryn Salam joined the Breakthrough team, she wanted to refresh the journal, which had been around since 2011. Her goal was to make the magazine, which is centered on one of THE topics of our time, Climate Change, nothing short of newsstand-worthy.

Breakthrough’s mission is to promote ecomodernist solutions for specific environmental challenges through its research, and analysis, by means of a non-partisan stance. And they have a lot to say about it. The material is outstanding and informative with each issue running from 100 to150 pages.

ASSIGNMENT: Redesign with clear and distinctive pacing, while making an effort to energize the material to entice and inform it’s core readership: male/female, 35-45.

SOLUTION: Bring a sense of humanity and hope to the material, achieved through clear navigation, disciplined use of color and smartly humorous illustrations.

We feel so fortunate to have partnered with The Breakthrough Journal to launch this new chapter and look forward to more adventures together!
