In Trust Magazine

Creative Director

In Trust Magazine has been the heart and soul of the In Trust Center for Theological Studies for five decades. The quarterly’s aim is to support board members and other stakeholders of theological schools. In order to conceptualize our redesign, editorial partner Mark Kelly and I, steeped ourselves in the environment around the In Trust community, which is a hybrid of business and higher education. Redesigns are an adventurous journey and we can't think of better traveling partners than the In Trust team!

ASSIGNMENT: Redesign the logo and the magazine while reorganizing and developing new content to engage the community in fresh and creative ways.

CHALLENGE: To learn and assess the brand culture and professional environment in order to effectively create engaging, appropriate content for its audience.

The energetic redesign engaged the community deeply, offered more voices and covered a wide range of subjects in shorter formats. The first issue was a response to the pandemic and the racial unrest in the US. While the magazine tackles serious subjects, in its redevelopment we felt an important user trait is that it be an uplifting and positive experience.

Carla and Mark are ultimate creative professionals. We invited them to partner in our magazine redevelopment and design work and they took the time to understand and engage with our audience, grasp and reflect our mission, and honor our history while visioning the future of our publication. Our partnership led to a re-imagining of our magazine to include more perspectives, voices, and content supported by gorgeous art. We could not be more pleased with the final result.
